UTEX: PIV metal solution

To 1000 ml of glass-distilled water, add 0.750 g of Na2EDTA, and dissolve fully. Add the following salts in the amounts indicated:

Compound Quantity
1 FeCl3 x 6H2O 97 mg
2 MnCl2 x 4H2O 41 mg
3 ZnCl2 5 mg
4 CoCl2 x 6H2O 2 mg
5 Na2MoO4 x 2H2O 4 mg

For marine algae that require salinities less than 30 ppt, the basic erdschreiber medium is combined with glass-distilled water prior to inoculating the new culture, such that 1/2-erdschreiber combines erdschreiber medium and distilled water 1:1; 2/3-erdschreiber combines erdschreiber medium and distilled water 2:1, etc.
